Investing in a surveillance system for either your home or business acts not only as a potential solution to your security needs. An estimated One in every Five households in the US has reported an incident of burglary or forced entry, 79% of which was perpetrated through the front door entryway.
The presence of CCTV surveillance cameras wards away trespassers and provides video evidence key to identifying criminals. Just to name a few reasons why you need to install CCTV security cameras in your business or home.
Digital Video Recorder (DVR)
A Digital Video Recorder, otherwise known as a DVR, is the device that connects all the CCTV cameras within a system together, and records footage for you to refer back to a hard drive.
The bigger the onboard hard drive, the longer the recorded history. With 1TB as a minimum, you can be sure to have at least 7 days recordings available at all times.
You also have the option to increase the storage capability by setting up cameras to motion detection recording, available on all of our systems.
Network Video Recorder (NVR)
Network video recorders differ from digital video recorders (DVR) as their input is from a network rather than a direct connection to a video capture card or tuner. Video on a DVR is encoded and processed at the DVR, while video on an NVR is encoded and processed at the camera, then streamed to the NVR for storage or remote viewing. NVR systems along with IP cameras will give you higher resolution systems.
Digital West Solutions provide only the highest quality NVRs for you to choose from.
Our selection suits every budget and requirement, but all NVRs are designed with and optimum storage, ease of use, greater image quality in mind.
Storage & Quality
Storage refers to the amount of footage that can be saved on the DVR’s hard drive.
Once the hard drive is full, the oldest files get recorded over, so a larger hard drive allows you to view footage from further back – great if you travel or have a lot of cameras set up simultaneously.
The DVR can also be programmed to record constantly or only when motion is detected, this saves tons of hard drive space because you are not recording hours of nothing.
Resolution & Picture Quality
Resolution matters when it comes to CCTV. Higher resolution cameras can capture more details per frame, giving you a better picture.
When you are buying a CCTV security system, ask yourself: How detailed do you need the surveillance video to be?
If you are looking to protect high value items in high crime areas don’t scrimp on camera resolution. You will thank those pixels if you can provide high quality images to the Police. Blurry images will not let you identify a criminal or read a number plate.
Number of Cameras
Number of Channels
We list both the number of cameras and number of channels of our CCTV systems.
The number of cameras is the amount actually supplied, while the number of channels is the number of cameras that can be connected to the DVR/NVR – for example, a 4 channel DVR can connect 4 cameras. For this reason, when you choose a DVR, it’s advisable to think about how many cameras you may need in the future.
IR’S Infrared Night Vision
Infrared night vision is included with all of our systems, it allows the cameras to see and record in the dark. The distance that this works at varies between cameras, so make sure you choose a CCTV system with good enough night visibility for your surroundings. Try and put yourself in an intruder’s shoes. Where will they approach your home? How far do you need your CCTV camera to see at night? Don’t make it easier for burglars at night.
Installation and Setup
A dedicated Internet connection to your DVR/NVR, allow you remote access to your camera systems using your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
A great way for keeping an eye on your property while you’re away.
